Here is the Update on John's Cataract Surgery

Here is the Update on John's Cataract Surgery

I just had to repost this picture of John in this pre-op space age blanket....I really love it...LOL...

First I must say thank y’all for your prayers for John’s cataract surgery.

The surgery went well the doctor said and he did really well yesterday and again this evening. PRAISE THE LORD! No fever, he's been able to eat lunch and dinner plus was no problem watching tv.

When he had retinal detachment in the left eye and a tear in the right a few years ago, the doctor said that he may get cataracts.

retinal detachment is when a critical layer of tissue (the retina) at the back of the eye pulls away from the layer of blood vessels that provides it with oxygen and nourishment.  Retinal detachment leaves the retinal cells lacking oxygen. The longer retinal detachment goes untreated, the greater your risk of permanent vision loss in the affected eye.

The vitreous is a jelly-like material that fills most of the space inside the eye. If the vitreous is more adherent, and the separation can cause a tear in the retina.

When John had surgery on the tear and detached retina, they put in a gas bubble. The gas bubble gets smaller and smaller as the eye heals, but until it disappears, you have to keep your head down so gravity keeps it in place. Keeping your head down night and day for 4 - 8 weeks is not easy.

So, to John, the tv is the most important to him since when he had retinal surgery, he could only listen to it.

His post-op exam was today and the doctor said, so far so good. He going for his next followup next week Friday, so please continue to pray for his continued healing.

Thanks again for your faithful prayers. May God bless you too.
