READ THE BIBLE IN A YEAR - VERSES OF THE DAY - JOSHUA 14, 15, 16

Joyce Meyer - Eat the Cookie, Buy the Shoes (4)

Joshua 14

1THESE ARE the inheritances in the land of Canaan distributed to the Israelites by Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers' houses of their tribes.
2Their inheritance was by lot, as the Lord commanded Moses, for the nine and one-half tribes.
3For Moses had given an inheritance to the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them,

4For the people of Joseph were two tribes,
Manasseh and Ephraim. And no part was given in the land to the Levites except cities in which to live, with their pasturelands for their livestock and for their possessions.
5As the Lord commanded Moses, so the Israelites did, and they divided the land.
6Then the people of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God concerning me and you in Kadesh-barnea.
7Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to scout out the land. And I brought him a report as it was in my heart.
8But my brethren who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God.
9And Moses swore on that day, Surely the land on which your feet have walked shall be an inheritance to you and your children always, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.
10And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years since the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while the Israelites wandered in the wilderness; and now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.
11Yet I am as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so is my strength now for war and to go out and to come in.
12So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke that day. For you heard then how the [giantlike] Anakim were there and that the cities were great and fortified; if the Lord will be with me, I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.
13Then Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.
14So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord, the God of Israel.
15The name of Hebron before was Kiriath-arba [city of Arba]. This Arba was the greatest of the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

Joshua 15

1THE LOT for the tribe of Judah according to its families reached southward to the boundary of Edom, to the Wilderness of Zin at its most southern part.
    2And their south boundary was from the end of the Salt [Dead] Sea, from the bay that faces southward;
3It went out south of the ascent of Akrabbim, passed along to Zin, and went up south of Kadesh-barnea, along by Hezron, up to Addar, and turned about to Karka,
4Passed along to Azmon, went out by the Brook of Egypt, and ended at the sea. This was their southern frontier.
    5The eastern boundary was the Salt [Dead] Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan. The northern boundary was from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan;
6And the boundary went up to Beth-hogla and passed along north of Beth-arabah and [it] went up to the [landmark] Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.
7And the boundary went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, and so northward, turning toward Gilgal, which is opposite the ascent to Adummim on the south side of the valley; and it passed on to the waters of En-shemesh and ended at En-rogel.
8Then the boundary went up by the Valley of Ben-hinnom [son of Hinnom] at the southern shoulder of the Jebusite [city]--that is, Jerusalem; and the boundary went up to the top of the mountain that lies before the Valley of Hinnom on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.
9Then the boundary extended from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah and went on to the cities of Mount Ephron; then it bent round to Baalah, that is, Kiriath-jearim.
10And the boundary went around west of Baalah to Mount Seir, passed along to the northern side of Mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, went down to Beth-shemesh, and then passed on by Timnah.
11And the boundary went out to the shoulder of the hill north of Ekron, then bent round to Shikkeron, and passed along to Mount Baalah, and went out to Jabneel. Then the boundary ended at the sea.
12And the west boundary was the Great Sea with its coastline. This is the boundary round about the people of Judah according to their families.
13And to Caleb son of Jephunneh, [Joshua] gave a part among the people of Judah, as the Lord commanded [him]; it was Kiriath-arba, which is Hebron, [named for] Arba the father of Anak.
14And Caleb drove from there the three sons of Anak--Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai--the descendants of Anak.
15He went up from there against the people of Debir. Debir was formerly named Kiriath-sepher.
16Caleb said, He who smites Kiriath-sepher and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.
17And Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.
18When Achsah came to Othniel, she got his consent to ask her father for a field. Then she returned to Caleb and when she lighted off her donkey, Caleb said, What do you wish?
19Achsah answered, Give me a present. Since you have set me in the [dry] Negeb, give me also springs of water. And he gave her the [sloping field with] upper and lower springs.
20This is the inheritance of the tribe of Judah according to their families.
21The cities of the tribe of Judah in the extreme south toward the boundary of Edom were: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,
    22Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah,
    23Kedesh, Hazor, Ithnan,
    24Ziph, Telem, Bealoth,
    25Hazor-hadattah, Kerioth-hezron (Hazor),
    26Amam, Shema, Moladah,
    27Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, Beth-pelet,
    28Hazar-shual, Beersheba, Biziothiah,
    29Baalah, Iim, Ezem,
    30Eltolad, Chesil, Hormah,
    31Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah,
32Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon. All the cities were twenty-nine [later thirty-six] with their villages.
33In the lowland: Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah,
    34Zanoah, En-gannim, Tappuah, Enam,
    35Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, Azekah,
36Shaaraim, Adithaim, and Gederah and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages.
    37Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal-gad,
    38Dilean, Mizpah, Joktheel,
    39Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon,
    40Cabbon, Lahmas, Chitlish,
41Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages.
    42Libnah, Ether, Ashan,
    43Iphtah, Ashnah, Nezib,
44Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages.
45Ekron, with its towns and villages.
    46From Ekron to the sea, all that lay beside Ashdod, with their villages;
47Ashdod, with its towns and its villages; Gaza, with its towns and its villages, as far as the Brook of Egypt, and the Great [Mediterranean] Sea with its coastline.
48In the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, Socoh,
    49Dannah, Kiriath-sannah (that is, Debir),
    50Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim,
51Goshen, Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages.
    52Arab, Dumah, Eshan,
    53Janim, Beth-tappuah, Aphekah,
54Humtah, Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), and Zior; nine cities with their villages.
    55Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah,
    56Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah,
57Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages.
    58Halhul, Beth-zur, Gedor,
59Maarath, Beth-anoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages.
60Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim) and Rabbah; two cities with their villages.
61In the wilderness: Beth-arabah, Middin, Secacah,
62Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En-gedi; six cities with their villages.
63But the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the people of Judah could not drive out; so the Jebusites dwell with the people of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.

Joshua 16

 1THE ALLOTMENT for the people of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, east of the waters of Jericho, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel;
2Then it went from Bethel to Luz and passed on to Ataroth, the border of the Archites.
3And it went down westward to the territory of the Japhletites as far as the outskirts of Lower Beth-horon, then to Gezer, and ended at the sea.
4The descendants of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance.
5The boundary of the Ephraimites according to their families was thus: on the east side their border was Ataroth-addar as far as Upper Beth-horon.
6Then the boundary went from there to the sea; on the north was Michmethath; then on the east the boundary went out to Taanath-shiloh, and eastward to Janoah,
7Then it went down from Janoah to Ataroth and to Naarah, touched Jericho, and ended at the Jordan [River].
8The border went out from Tappuah westward to the brook Kanah and ended at the [Mediterranean] Sea. This is the inheritance of the Ephraimites by their families,
9With the towns set apart for the Ephraimites within the inheritance of the Manassites, all those towns with their villages.
10But they did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day, and they became slaves required to do forced labor.
